Huangqiao Ancient Village

Huangqiao Ancient  Village is located in Shangtashi Town, Pingjiang County,Yueyang City.
The Huangniwan Mansion in the village covers an area of more than 4,000 square meters. It is an architecture carved with patterns and paintings during the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912) under the reign of Emperor Jiaqing (1796-1820). It is more than 200 years old and has a traditional brick and wood structure of northern Hunan. It was preserved intact and was once a battlefield hospital during the War of Resistance against Japan. Not being far from the village, there are ancient courier station and post road ruins. In the late Qing Dynasty, the Taiping Army used to station here, and built defense facilities such as walls and castles. Thanks to the strong protection and inheritance sense of local residents, the above mentioned buildings have been completely preserved despite a hundred years of wind and rain erosion.

It was learnt from the relevant departments that, after evaluated by the expert committee, 1,602 ancient villages such as Xihulin Village in Mentougou District of Beijing and Huangqiao Village in Pingjiang County of Yueyang were planned to be included in the fourth batch of Chinese traditional villages. This will be publicized on the official website of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development soon.

Nowadays, Shangtashi Town has been regarded as an anti-Japanese war featured town in the inter-provincial borders. The local government will integrate rich tourism resources and war sites, to build an anti-Japanese war culture theme park, making it a cultural tourism destination of anti-Japanese war and patriotic education base.
