Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone


Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone is divided into three large separately themed park areas. The first, the Nanshan Buddhism Cultural Garden showcases traditional Chinese Buddhist culture which is full of deep moral philosophy and wisdom that can transform people’s lives. This garden’s principle buildings are the Nanshan Buddhist Temple, the Guanyin (Goddess of Mercy) statue facing the South China Sea, the famous Buddha landscape park, the ten-tiered pagoda, the homecoming garden and the Buddhism Cultural Exchange Center. There is also a vegetarian shopping street.

The second area is the China Longevity & Good Fortune Garden. Here the visitor will find an outstanding display of the essence of collective Chinese ethnic culture characterized by peace, tranquility, happiness and a serene atmosphere. The South China Sea Traditional Culture Garden shows off the Nanshan region’s blue sky, jade green ocean, mountains, sun kissed beaches, forests and reefs. The distinct charm found in the garden arises from the nature and scenery of the South China Sea. The Li and Miao traditional villages remain untouched by western modernization in this garden. Principle features are smooth pasturelands, the Li & Miao traditional park, Mythological World, Madam Huang Da Po Museum, Ocean Park, Underwater World, exhibition of flower and bird paintings etc.

Giant Buddha on the Southern Sea is located in the southernmost seaside resort of Sanya, on Hainan island in China, stands a 108 meter tall giant statue of Guan Yin with 3 faces overlooking the South China Sea as well as the hillside monastry known as Nanshan, which means "southern mountains". 

The Nanshan Guan Yin is also known as "Nan Hai" Guan Yin because it faces the South China Sea which in Chinese is called "Nan Hai".

Nanshan Buddhism & Cultural Center showcases traditional Chinese, Hainanese and Buddhist culture. The most impressive attractions are the 108 meter high gold–jade Guanyin Buddha statue facing the South China Sea, the Nanshan Temples, the thousand arms golden Guanyin, the world’s largest dragon ink-stone and some superb tropical vistas.  In Nanshan restaurant you can have a vegetarian Buddhist lunch which you might not have had ever before.

Travel Tips
Location:  in the southernmost seaside resort of Sanya, on Hainan island, 40 Kilometres from Sanya City,national highway 255 and the island ring road both run to the north of this tourism area.
Take an express bus from Haikou to Sanya, then catch the Nanshan – Tianya non-stop bus (fare 4 RMB per person) or a local bus to the destination (fare 5 RMB per person). Alternatively take a taxi from the Sanya City urban area which will cost around 50 RMB
