Yichun Drum Tower

Yichun Drum Tower,  also known as 袁州谯楼 (Yuán zhōu qiáolóu) in Chinese, is located on Gulou Road Pedestrian Street in downtown Yichun, Jiangxi Province. Yichun Drum Tower was originally built in 944 during the Southern Tang Dynasty. In 1219 during the South Song Dynsty,  it was created as a local time working observatory that integrates three functions of time measurement, punctuality and time service.

Yichun Drum Tower consists of the main tower, the south observation roof, the north observation roof, and the tower on the main platform. The base covers an area of 780 square meters,  and the main platform is 6.05 meters high. Close to the north and south sides of the main platform, each has a viewing platform. The viewing platform is 19 meters long and 7.6 meters wide. The main platform and the north-south viewing platform are arranged in a “π” shape. The stone arches are set under the city platform. The east and west arches are embedded  stone curvings such as "鼓楼 Drum Tower" and "余辉Afterglow" .

On May 25, 2006, Yichun Drum Tower was approved  as a national key cultural relic protection unit by the State Council of the People's Republic of China.
