With over one thousand years history, the local ancient villagers started to use bamboo for hand-made paper making in the Song Dynasty (908-1227). The hand-made paper, was called Gushan Court Paper, has long fiber length and is preserved for decades. The paper surface is new, not damp and not easy to break. It is especially suitable for painting and calligraphy, and has the advantage that machine paper is irreplaceable. Known as the “tribute paper”,the Daoguanchong Village's bamboo paper was used by the court in  the period  of Emperor Qianlong during the Qing Dynasty(1644-1911).

Huang Longgen, over 50 years old, is the owner of the “Gushan Paper Workshop”. Since the age of 17, he has inherited this ancient handmade papermaking technique from his father. It is already the fifth generation in his hands.

In his memory, the manufacture of Gushan tribute paper was once the work of the neighbors. The villagers often have their own bamboo forests. The papers produced are also produced and sold to Changsha, Liuyang and other places for the artists to use their ink. With the rapid development of the economy and the substantial increase in labor costs, the papermaking workshops in the village have been transformed into scattered households by the family's papers in their heyday.

Wang Lusheng, 68 years old, is a hand-made paper making artist in the local village. In his own papermaking workshop, he skillfully shakes bamboo curtains, into the pool, gently shakes, out of the pool, and billets, continuing the traditional papermaking craftsmanship that the ancestors used to make a living.

Emperorand was  In 2016, “Liuyang Handmade Papermaking Craftsmanship” was listed as a non-legacy project in Hunan Province. In Daoguanchong Village, there are 24 local villagers to regain their papermaking skills and realize the protection and inheritance of the non-legacy culture in the “live”.
