Yueyang Tower, also called "Yueyang Pavilion", is situated at the western gate of Yueyang Ancient City, Hunan Province, overlooking Lake Dongting from its perch on the eastern shore of the lake. And it is the central attraction in Yueyang City, given its cultural history and its fame as one of the three famous towers of Southern China, the other two being Yellow Crane Tower in Wuchang, Hubei Province and Prince Teng Pavillion in Nanching, Jiangxi Province. 
Yueyang Tower, built by the Eastern Wu military advisor Lu Su as a parade stand from which to observe the periodic review of the naval ships conducting maneuvers on Lake Dongting, was originally named Southern Pavilion. During the Tang Dynasty (CE 618-907), the tower was rebuilt by the then governor of Yueyang.

Yuelu Academy locates at Yuelu Mountain Scenic Zone, a National AAAA Scenic Spot in the west bank of Xiangjiang River in Changsha, Hunan Province. In the ninth year of Kaibao Period, Northern Song Dynasty (A.D 976), Tanzhou Taishou (a prefecture chief of Tanzhou in feudal China) Zhudong officially founded Yuelu Academy based on a school run by Buddhists. After Song Dynasty, Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. It was successively named as Hunan Higher Normal School and Hunan Professional Industry School. In 1926, it was normally named as Hunan University. Through thousand years, it is still going forward, thus the university is called "one-thousand-year old academy".

Mengdong River Scenic Spot is nearby Furong Ancient Town in Yonghusn County of West Hunan. It is about 130 km away from Zhangjiajie. The 112-kilometer-long river originates in Longshan County. In the lower reaches, it joins Youshui River, and goes into Yuan River. It was named Mengdong River after the hole in its sources in Mengbi Vally in Longshan County. Nowadays, the Mengdong River scenic spot is famous largely as an ideal place for rafting. Here visitors can raft on it in rubber boats, and because of the fantastic scenery and unforgettable experience, it gains the praise as the "number one rafting in the world".
