Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region,is located almost in the center of  Guangxi,  though slightly southerly, closer to the coast and the Gulf of Tonkin and the South China Sea. The Chinese island of Hainan lies almost due south across the Gulf of Tonkin. With over 1,600 years history,Nanning serves as the political, economic, cultural, information, financial, technological and educational center of Guangxi. Nanning, also known as a "Green City", is a national garden city and won a UN Habitat Award in 2007.

History of Nanning
Nanning has 1,680 years history which was first started to build as Jingxing County in 318 during the Eastern Jin Dyansty. In 634 during the Tang Dyansty, Jingxing was renamed Yizhou, hence, the city is also called  Yi for short. In 1314 during the Yuan Dyansty, the city was changed its name as Nanning, which means " south peace
" in Chinese. Nanning was founded as the capital of Guangx Zhuang Autonomous Regioni in 1958.

When to visit Nanning?
Nanning is a small basin surrounded by mountains. Belonging to the subtropical monsoon zone, the climate features humidity and heat. 
October and November are the best time for visiting, and a variety of special and important festivals are held during this time, such as the International Folk Song and Art Festival and the Tourism Festival etc. Actually, as a melting-pot of Zhuang and other ethnic minority groups, the city has its own special festivals at different times of the year.
