Dove Tree


Davidia Involucrata Baill, also called Dove Tree, Chinese Name: 珙桐 (gǒng tóng), is a deciduous tree which can grow to 15- 25 meters high, with broad ovate leaves and serrated edges. There are only two species of undergraduate plants, two of which are similar, except that one leaf has hairy and the other leaf sycamore is smooth.

Since the discovery in Muping, Sichuan in 1869,  the tree Davidia Involucrata Baill has been introduced to various countries, and has become a valuable ornamental tree species that people of all countries love. The tree was first discovered by the French missionary David God as a Westerner and named for Latin. The god of David is also the name of the Latin name for the deer. In 1904,the tree was introduced into Europe and North America and became a famous ornamental tree. In China, the tree is gradually being introduced into ornamental plants.

The tree of Davidia Involucrata Baill are widely grows at the mountainous and valley in Tianzi Mountain, the Golden Whip Streem, and the Yelllow Stone Village. The tree flowers from May to June. The inflorescence is like a bird's head, and the bracts are as white as a wing. It is like a dove flying.

Dove Tree Garden is located in the eastern scenic spot of Tianmen Mountain, with over 1500 meters above sea level. The garden preserves the intact original natural forest. It is known as the “dove-like tree”. Its ancient trees are towering, the vines are entangled, the moss is everywhere, like the natural bonsai of Tiancheng, and it is also the natural original science park, which is known as the world. However, it is easily to see the tree of  Davidia Involucrata Baill while you travel in Zhangjiajie National Forest park and Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park.


With colorful and beautiful flowers, the tree of Davidia Involucrata Baill is the remains of the Cenozoic Tertiary 10 million years ago. During the Quaternary glacial period, most of the phoenix trees were extinct, only survived in some areas of southern China, Luoyang Lucheng Agriculture It has been scaled up and planted successfully. It has become the "living fossil" of the plant world today, and is known as "the pigeon tree of China", also known as the "pigeon flower tree" and "water pear". The wild species only grow in the southwestern Sichuan Province of China and the central Hubei Province and surrounding areas.
 
The tree of Davidia Involucrata Baill has been listed as a national key protected wild plant. It is a unique species belonging to China. It is a relict plant and a famous ornamental plant in the world. It is also a national first-class protection plant.
