Guigang Travel Guide


Guigang,located in the southeast of Guangxi, in the middle of the Xijiang River Basin, and in the middle of the Xunyu Plain, is an important gateway to the southwestern China. The Tropic of Cancer runs across central Guigang. It borders Wuzhou on the east, adjacent to Yulin on the south, borders on Nanning on the west, and connects to Laibin on the north.

History of Guigang
Since the Qin Dynasty (221BC-206BC) conquered south regions of the Five Ridges, Guigang had been administrated by Guilin Shire, Yulin Shire in the following year. It was changes into Guixian County during the Ming Dynasties (1368-1644) until many years later. In 1988, Guigang was promoted to be a city.


What to see in Guigang?
Along the Yujiang River (the largest tributary river of Xijiang River) from Gangbei District northwards and northeastwards to Guiping City and Pingnan County, is the largest plain in Guangxi, the Xunyu Plain. On the whole, the terrain of the city slopes downwards from northwest to southeast. Guigang is also known as Lotus City and one of the ten most romantic lotus appreciation places in China because the city is full of beautiful lotus flowers. When to visit Guigang?
Guigang bears a subtropical monsoon climate. January is the coldest month with an average temperature of 12℃. While in the hottest July, the average temperature remains around 29℃. Every March to October is the high season to travel there.


How to reach Guigang?
Guigang is about two hours' drive from Nanning. For visitors who prefer to travel by air, Nanning Wuxu International Airport is the best choice. The local central bus station is opposite to the railway station in Heping Road. From the bus station, there are buses to the Nanning Bus Terminal in No.80, Chaoyang Road. Then the airport buses to Nanning airport can be found in the air ticket office of CAAC in Chaoyang Road.

Guigang is an area where there are 23 ethnic groups including Zhuang, Han, and Yao. The population of Zhuang in Guigang is 380,000, accounting for 28% of the total population of Guigang.  There are 77,000 Yao nationality in Guigang City.  there are 2 ethnic townships , such as Mayan Yao Township and Guoan Yao Township.
