Puguang Temple


Puguang Temple,普光禅寺,is located in Jiefang Road, Yongding District of Zhangjiajie City.  It is a temple with a long history and a reputation for broadcasting.

It was recorded that the temple was originally built in 1413 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). And it was rebuilt in 1733 during the Qing Dynasty(1645-1911), According to historical records, Puguang Temple was built seven years earlier than the Forbidden City in Beijing (the Forbidden City was built in the 18th year of Ming Yongle, that is, 1420 AD), and it was built three years earlier than the Golden Temple of Wudang Mountain in Hubei (Wu Dangshan Golden Temple was built in Ming Yongle 10).

Puguang Temple was originally an ancient architectural complex, including Confucian Temple, Wu Temple, Chenghuang Temple, and Liangliang Academy. Currently, only Puguang Temple, Wu Temple and Wenchang Temple are preserved. The rest, either destroyed by soldiers or destroyed by fire, or ignorant because of ignorance destroyed.

Puguang Temple covers a total area of ​​8,618 square meters, and is dedicated to the five ancestral temples of the Buddhist monasteries. The resident monks reach 50-100 people. In addition to presiding over and managing the temple, they also govern nearly 100 temples in the original Dayong.

The celebrities of Buddhism have held the Longhua Conference in Puguang Temple six times. Not only the province but also thousands of Buddhists from other provinces in the south of the Yangtze River are here to be ordained, so they are known as the “Jiangnan Famous Brake”. The main buildings of Puguang Temple are Dashanmen, Ershanmen, Daxiong Hall, Luohan Hall, Guanyin Temple, Yuhuangge, Gaochun Temple, etc. They have the architectural styles of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. They are the study of ancient architecture history and experience.Puguang Temple is  a good place for Buddhism.
