Xingde Mountain

Xingdeshan, also known as Xingde Mountain, is located at Laopeng Village, in the border areas of Taoyuan County and Cili County. It is a famous Taoist mountain whose summit is 845 meters above the sea level. It is known as the “Wudang Mountain in South China”, as well as Wulei Mountain.

Xingde Mountain features the ancient building complex of Xingzi Palace. These ancient buildings are made of purple sandrock which is easy to access on the mountain. They are structured with a series of exquisite imitative-wood dougong (a system of brackets inserted between the top of a column and a crossbeam) that are rare seen in Hunan and even in China. The ancient buildings are regarded as “living fossils” in the study of ancient architecture and history of Taoist culture. The complex was listed as key cultural relics under state protection.
