Linnong Miao Villgae

Linnong Miao Village,  located in a mountain valley in Aikou Village of  Jishou City,  has a strong Miao Ethniic style. In 2018, Linnongzhai was included in the fifth batch of the list of traditional Chinese villages.

Linnong Miao Village is divided three groups which are built in three mountain valleys within the village, These three mountains looks like three galloping "horses", and each village group is situated on top of the "horses", forming a magnificent pattern of "three galloping horses", showcasing the superiority and uniqueness of this landscape.

The streets and alleys within Linnongzhai are arranged in a zigzag pattern along the contour lines, adapting to the mountainous terrain and rising smoothly. The overall street and alley layout is based on a main road leading into the village, connecting multiple village level main roads, cluster branch alleys, and entrance alleys, forming a hierarchical and gradually narrowing street and alley spatial system. At the same time, with the height difference of the mountain, there are multiple turning points and steps, creating a unique spatial experience of changing scenery step by step.

The traditional buildings in Linnongzhai are mostly built along the mountain terrain and belong to the typical single story wooden structure houses in the Xiangxi region. The plan usually adopts a four room layout: the main hall is centered, and the left side is the fire pit room; On the right side, it is divided into two rooms, with a fire pit in the front room and a bedroom in the back room. A large amount of firewood is stacked on both sides of the front of the house for use in the fire pit; There is also a pit rack next to the fire pit, on which firewood can be placed and easily accessed, making it very convenient. Indoor installation of elevated wooden flooring to prevent moisture, insulation, and keep warm. This type of traditional building has a stable structure, beautiful shape, durability, and is warm in winter and cool in summer, carrying the wisdom of the ancestors in Xiangxi to adapt to nature and use local materials.

As a national intangible cultural heritage passed down from Linnongzhai to the present day, "Miao Song" embodies the wisdom of the Miao people. In Linnong Village, people use Miao songs to tell stories about the origin of the nation, love between men and women, daily customs, and local customs. The interpretation of Miao songs is simple and unadorned, with rich and diverse forms, sincere and passionate emotions, sometimes using comparisons, sometimes using excitement, sometimes using fu, and casually forming chapters. The images are lively and the artistic conception is profound, like a colorful picture of Miao ethnic customs.

In recent years, Linnong Village has vigorously promoted the protection and utilization of traditional villages, relying on the traditional style of Miao villages, rich historical and cultural resources, and the local characteristic industry of Xiangxi Golden Tea, to coordinate the development of tea tourism integration. In addition, with the improvement of village roads and street environment, the infrastructure and living environment of the village have significantly improved, allowing the ancient Miao village to shine again in protection and development.
