Laopeng Tujia Village, a must-see place in the 48-stockade Scenic Area, is situated in Guangfuqiao Town,east of Zhangjiajie City's Cili County.It's 151 km away from downtown of Zhangjiajie.And it is only 18 km from Reshi Town in Changde City's Taoyuan County.

Centuries- old papermaking technique 

An ancient papermaking technique is still popular in Laopeng village in Zhangjiajie, central China’s Hunan province. With technological advancements, making paper by hand has given way to machinery production and the ancient papermaking in Laopeng village is slowly fading out of sight.Phyllostachys pubescens, a kind of bamboo, is the raw material used to make the paper, and this traditional technique involves 10-step procedures. 

Cai and Xie are two major families in Laopeng Village.It was recorded that the Cai Family is the 29th generations of Cai Lun,inventor of Chinese paper-making.And they moved from Leiyang to Cili in the Three Kingdom Period.The photoes to show centuries-old handmade paper skill in Laopeng village of Zhangjiajie, central China’s Hunan province.

Laopeng Bamboo Sea

Laopeng Paper is made of bamboo groved in Laopeng Village.It is called the "Sea of Bamboo" because of the large area of the bamboo groves.Laopeng Bamboo Sea is an incredibly lush natural bamboo forest.It streches cross streams and mountains.Entering Laopeng Village,you can see the green banboo forest anywhere.Covering a total area of 10 sqaure km,the bamboo forest groves in both side of the stream which runs over 5km in the mountainous.

The area has winding roads and gurgling streams.Standing on the top of Chengmen Stockade of Xingde Mountain, you can take a bird's-eye view that it looks like green waves dancing with the wind,rising and falling. When the wind blows, you can hear the unusual creaking sound of the wind through the bamboo leaves.

Laopeng Village can be your starting point for exploration and sightseeing to Chengmen Stockade and Xingde Mountain.You can hike 2 hours along the winding path from the village to Chengmen Stockade,as well as 1,5 hours to Xingde Mountain.
